Grand Center Community Celebrates Newly Revitalized Strauss Park
On June 6, Southwest Airlines Co., Project for Public Spaces and Grand Center, Inc. unveiled enhancements in Strauss Park made possible through Southwest Airline’s Heart of the Community program. Community leaders and neighbors who contributed to the vision of Strauss Park had an opportunity to experience what Southwest’s grant will provide to the region. The celebration featured performances by Letter to Memphis, St. Louis Jitterbugs, Circus Flora and Ashleylianne Dance Company and an interactive art project by the Contemporary Art Museum. Grand Center was one of six organizations selected in 2015 to receive funding through the highly competitive Southwest Airlines Heart of the Community grant program, which seeks to draw people to public spaces, build connections within communities and empower users to feel a sense of pride and ownership in their city’s great spaces – essential components in developing sustainable and resilient communities
