SUMMARY:Behind this Mask: Celebrating Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore
DESCRIPTION:This day-long celebration of the exhibition And I Saw New Heavens and a New Earth: The Partnership\, Art\, and Activism of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore explores the sustained resonance of Cahun and Moore’s personal\, creative\, and activist partnership. The program’s title comes from a line in Cahun’s 1930 surrealist autobiography Aveux non Avenus (“Disavowed Confessions”): “Behind this mask is another mask. I will never be finished removing all these faces.” In this spirit\, join a lineup of artists and writers in celebrating the ways Cahun and Moore used language\, visual art\, and personal expression to explore self-presentation.

SUMMARY:High Noon: Navigating the Aftermath\, From ICU Nurse to Creative Catalyst
DESCRIPTION:Join ICU nurse\, mother\, and author Nadeane Jackson for a raw\, illuminating High Noon discussion on navigating the invisible emotional crises of medical trauma and how the arts can help. Drawing from over a decade of critical care nursing and her own high-risk pregnancy and prolonged NICU journey with her daughter\, Nadeane uncovers the striking parallels between the NICU experience and a child’s battle with cancer. Through her new company\, Onyx Ink Press\, and the North Star Book Series\, she uses vulnerable poetry and storytelling to bridge what she has named “The Survival Gap” — the emotional architecture of clinical trauma. Noting that the psychological terrain we must cross during trauma remains the same regardless of the diagnosis. Discover how the St. Louis arts community serves as a vital sanctuary for translating cold clinical sterility into community healing\, featuring readings from her book The Aftermath. Whether you are in crisis or part of the support village\, this talk is an essential roadmap for turning heavy\, isolated trauma into a shared creative release. Books will be available for sale and signing.

SUMMARY:High Noon: Saberes Laterales (Lateral Knowledges) -- with Sebastián Llovera\, Venezuelan Artist Based in St. Louis
DESCRIPTION:Venezuelan artist Sebastián Llovera\, now based in St. Louis\, discusses his artistic practice. He explains how he seeks to subvert dominant instruments and methods of knowledge production by exploring the dynamics among what is defined as nature\, culture\, and technology. Through “speculative collaborations” with systems such as machine learning algorithms. and fungi\, he reexamines the concept of agency in search of lateral\, integrative ways of knowing and acting within the world. Driven by a seemingly disparate range of influences\, from science and epistemology to the tropical and its popular cultures\, from extractivism to forced migration\, he will show how his work combines media from different moments in time and space\, resulting in experiences that articulate a marginal\, hybrid knowledge.

SUMMARY:High Noon: Hunting for Treasure in St. Louis History
DESCRIPTION:Researching local history is like doing archaeology: you dig through layers of material to uncover treasure—in this case\, previously undiscovered details about a person or event that bring your story to life. And that’s important because good history is\, fundamentally\, a series of factual but exciting stories that illuminate people’s motives and actions. Without such stories\, history can become dry\, even boring. Digging for those nuggets may sound tedious; you end up reading old newspapers\, letters\, journals\, and numerous meeting minutes. Sometimes\, those searches are fruitless. But there are also “aha” moments that make all this work worthwhile—and it’s some of those moments that O’Connor will talk about.
