SUMMARY:Preservation Hall Jazz Band: Creole Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the season as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band returns with the Creole Christmas concert series. Join as the band performs New Orleans classics as well as some of our best-loved holiday selections with a twist. \nAt a moment when musical streams are crossing with unprecedented frequency\, it’s crucial to remember that throughout its history\, New Orleans has been the point at which sounds and cultures from around the world converge\, mingle\, and resurface\, transformed by the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, which has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 50 years\, all the while carrying it enthusiastically forward as a reminder that the history they were founded to preserve is a vibrantly living history. \nFor those wary that a band with the rich history of the PHJB is tackling new material\, Jaffe is quick to point out that Preservation Hall – which his parents\, Allan and Sandra Jaffe\, founded in 1961 – was never meant to be a museum. At its beginnings it broke racial boundaries to present the living legends of New Orleans music\, living links to the origins of jazz. Today\, with a band whose ages range nearly 60 years\, the mission remains the same: to pass on the traditions while continually revitalizing it with new blood and fresh ideas. \n“I see it as something that’s necessary for the evolution and survival of New Orleans music\,” Jaffe says. “Interpreting the repertoire that’s been around for a hundred years is one thing\, but the challenge is to keep that repertoire and those traditions alive while at the same time being honest about who you are as a musician\, allowing all of your musical influences to be reflected in what you create.”

SUMMARY:Tommy Emmanuel With Special Guest Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams
DESCRIPTION:Presented by National Shows 2 \nThe real-time exuberance Tommy Emmanuel brings to every note of every song he plays is palpable and infectious. His fans are in love with his unbound talent as a guitarist of multitudes\, his ability to play three parts at once\, always with pure heart and real soul. \nIn 2018\, Tommy made Accomplice One\, a series of duets with musicians great and varied. It’s a concept that worked\, as the range of artists reflected Tommy’s expansive love of all kinds of music\, including Rodney Crowell\, Mark Knopfler\, Amanda Shires\, Jason Isbell\, Jerry Douglas\, Jake Shimabukuro and more. \nNow comes the long-awaited sequel\, Accomplice Two. It shares the same exuberance\, diversity\, and sense of adventure as the first album\, with a great range of artists such as Michael McDonald\, Billy Strings\, Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Sierra Hull\, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Yasmin Williams and more. \nTommy’s new television special Accomplice LIVE! begins airing on PBS in March of 2023. This special features some of Tommy’s best-known songs and duets with his accomplices such as Emmylou Harris\, Rodney Crowell\, Sierra Hull\, Yasmin Williams\, and many others. \nTommy was born in 1955 in Muswellbrook\, New South Wales Australia\, and started playing the guitar at age four. In his twenties\, he was the most sought-after performer and session musician in Sydney. By age 30\, he was burning on electric guitar with several rock bands in stadiums across Europe. Casting off the reliable rock band engine of monstrous sonics blasting\, Tommy went acoustic\, inspired by his hero\, Chet Atkins. \nChet welcomed Tommy into guitarist knighthood by bestowing upon him the coveted title of CGP (Certified Guitar Player)\, an honor awarded only to four other humans ever. Tommy Emmanuel has sold out shows all over the world and received multiple Grammy nominations\, ARIA Awards and IBMA Awards. \nCan’t attend this date? Check out the other available concert date on October 20 here.
