SUMMARY:Golf the Galleries
DESCRIPTION:The Sheldon Art Galleries presents the 7th annual Golf the Galleries interactive exhibition\, June 14 – August 11\, 2024\, sponsored by UMB Bank. The playable\, artist-designed\, nine-hole mini golf installation will again be in the Sheldon Art Galleries space and is designed to be inclusive\, family-friendly and accessible. The nine unique mini golf holes are designed by St. Louis area artists\, architects and creative agencies. Tickets are $12 adults / $10 children 12 and under. Golf the Galleries is open Tuesday – Thursday\, 12 – 5 p.m.; Friday\, 12 – 8 p.m.; and Saturday & Sunday\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. No advanced reservations will be offered this season. Sales will be accepted at the door only for maximum flexibility. All proceeds from Golf the Galleries support The Sheldon’s visual arts programming\, which offers local and national artists opportunities to share their work with the St. Louis community through free gallery exhibition and education programs.   \nHighlights from the Golf the Galleries:  \n Wonderland Whirl by City Museum  \nCity Museum’s Wonderland Whirl is a whimsical mini golf experience that takes players on a journey through the enchanting world of Wonderland. Tee off at the magical teacup\, the beginning of a fantastic adventure! The golf hole embraces sustainability by incorporating a foundation of sturdy repurposed wood. It features a touch of environmental consciousness utilizing recycled cans and other upcycled material throughout\, aligning with city Museum’s commitment to repurposing.  \n Keep Your Eye on the Ball by Paradowski Creative  \nImmerse yourself in a fusion of visual art and auditory wonder with this mini golf art installation. This course is a multisensory mini adventure where dynamic soundscapes created by the player blend with playful visual aesthetic. As you navigate the course\, your senses will be delighted and challenged\, creating an experience that celebrates the harmonious interplay between sight and sound.  \nStaircase by Trivers Architects  \nThis hole introduces a contest between two players\, using a ‘staircase’ of varying rhythm and obstacle with the guarantee of a hole-in-one — though this is the only guarantee to be found at this hole. Designed as an inherently inclusive race between two competitors\, each play results in its own serendipity — from the various paths the balls travel\, to the obstacles each encounters\, to the ever-changing duets they compose through sound\, each play is distinct and unrepeatable with the exception of a universally shared finale — the culminating clang of the predetermined hole: the cowbell.

SUMMARY:The SteelDrivers
DESCRIPTION:Only Nashville could give birth to a band like the SteelDrivers: a group of seasoned veterans–each distinguished in his or her own right\, each valued in the town’s commercial community–who are seizing an opportunity to follow their hearts to their souls’ reward. In doing so\, they are braiding their bluegrass roots with new threads of their own design\, bringing together country\, soul\, blues\, and other contemporary influences to create an unapologetic hybrid that is old as the hills but fresh as the morning dew. This is new music with the old feeling. SteelDrivers fan Vince Gill describes the band’s fusion as simply “an incredible combination.” \nSpecializing in a unique mix of what might be called bluegrass soul\, the SteelDrivers have become one of the biggest names in progressive bluegrass after making their debut in 2005. While there’s a strong traditional streak in the SteelDrivers’ sound\, they bring a passion to their delivery that adds a distinctive flavor\, and they’re not afraid of adding a forceful grit to the music. \nThe SteelDrivers have been nominated for four Grammys\, the Americana Music Association’s New Artist of the Year and was IBMA’s 2009 Emerging Artist of The Year. In 2015\, “The Muscle Shoals Recordings” won the Grammy award for Best Bluegrass Recording. \nThe SteelDrivers are: Richard Bailey (banjo)\, Tammy Rogers (fiddle)Mike Fleming (bass)Brent Truitt(mandolin) Matt Dame (Guitar) \nMeet and Greet Add-On includes a signed poster from the band and photo op before the concert.

SUMMARY:Chicago Farmer
DESCRIPTION:“Chicago Farmer represents the best qualities of Midwestern U.S.A. His lyrics\, his stories and his heart are true. He’ll give you that feeling of ‘going home’. He’ll make you want to say all those things you’ve been meaning to say but were too afraid. At the same time his songs can make you ask yourself some deep questions. His songs give you hope. If you didn’t know him I believe just his voice would make you believe every word he says. Definitely one of my favorite singers out there today.” – Pokey LaFarge \n“I love Chicago Farmer’s singing and playing and songs\, but it’s the intention behind the whole of his work that moves me to consider him the genuine heir to Arlo Guthrie or Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. He knows the shell game that goes on under folk music… which is sacred to me. Chicago Farmer is my brother; if you like me\, you’ll love him.” – Todd Snider \nThe son of a small-town farming community\, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow Midwesterner John Prine\, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small-town roots\, tilled with city streets mentality\, are turning heads North and South of I-80. \n“I love the energy\, music\, and creativity of Chicago\, but at the same time\, the roots and hard work of my small town\,” he shares. Growing up in Delavan\, Illinois\, with a population less than 2\,000\, Diekhoff’s grandparents were farmers\, and their values have always provided the baseline of his songs. \nHe writes music for “the kind of people that come to my shows. Whether in Chicago or Delavan\, everyone has a story\, and everyone puts in a long day and works hard the same way\,” he says. “My generation may have been labeled as slackers\, but I don’t know anyone who doesn’t work hard – many people I know put in 50-60 hours a week and 12-hour days. That’s what keeps me playing. I don’t like anyone to be left out; my music is for everyone in big and very small towns.” \nHe listened to punk rock and grunge as a kid before discovering a friend’s dad playing Hank Williams\, and it was a revelation. Prine and Guthrie quickly followed. The name Chicago Farmer was originally for a band\, but the utilitarian life of driving alone from bar to bar\, city to city – to make a direct connection to his audience and listener\, took a deeper hold.\n\nAll ticket prices include a $1 historical preservation fee.

SUMMARY:Sarah Jarosz: Polaroid Lovers Tour
DESCRIPTION:Four-time GRAMMY winner Sarah Jarosz returns to The Sheldon touring her latest album\, Polaroid Lovers\, which was released to great acclaim in January. \nSarah Jarosz released her debut album at the age of 18 and was immediately nominated for her first GRAMMY. Raised in Texas\, she began playing mandolin at age 10 and soon after guitar and banjo. To date\, she has released six studio albums\, has netted ten GRAMMY Nominations and four wins. In 2018\, she joined Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek and Aoife O’Donovan to form the supergroup\, I’m With Her. The group released their debut album See You Around\, and won duo/group of the year at the Americana Awards. Their song\, “Call My Name” won the GRAMMY for Best American Roots song. \nAs it goes with all change\, Jarosz’s major life events had her feeling contemplative. While sitting on the precipice of adulthood\, Polaroid Lovers finds her reflecting on past loves\, childhood dreams\, the places she lived in and all the versions of herself that she’s been. Although the listener experiences the sonic shift forward\, the album’s subject matter is a photo album of the past. Jarosz has never sounded more assured. Polaroid Lovers is filled with the kind of confidence that comes from hard won life experiences and the conviction of someone who truly knows herself. \nThanks to the rarefied alchemy that infuses all of Jarosz’s output — her finely wrought lyricism\, ravishing vocal work\, virtuosic yet unfettered musicality — Polaroid Lovers performs the much-needed magic of leading us toward a heightened sense of presence\, all while casting a lovely spell with her timelessly powerful songs. \nArtist Presale begins on Tuesday\, October 10 at 10 a.m.\nSpotify Presale begins on Wednesday\, October 11 at 10 a.m. \nA $1 per historical preservation fee is included in the listed ticket price.
