SUMMARY:The Glorious Crown
DESCRIPTION:This year’s dance concert features a selection of our signature works alongside an inspiring new piece titled “The Glorious Crown.” \n“The Glorious Crown” is a musical-infused piece\, that journeys through the history of crown symbolism\, exploring the diverse headwear of rulers\, warriors\, and leaders across Afro-Diasporic cultures. Each section examines the connections between power\, identity\, and legacy. Inspired by a personal journal entry from childhood\, the piece uses vibrant storytelling and uplifting music to illustrate that while earthly achievements offer temporary glory\, the eternal rewards promised to followers of Jesus Christ hold ultimate value by Creator and Artistic Director Alicia Sunshine.

SUMMARY:Music at the Intersection
DESCRIPTION:Music at the Intersection returns for its third year with a diverse\, genre-bending and decades-spanning artist lineup\, as well as a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. During the weekend\, more than 50 national\, regional and local artists are scheduled to perform across four stages throughout Grand Center Arts District’s outdoor festival footprint – a mix of urban streets and green spaces\, stretching across Washington Avenue\, just east of Grand Blvd. Festival grounds open at 12 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday\, September 9-10\, and performances will take place within that outdoor footprint until well after sunset. \n\nMusic at the Intersection is a civic-led effort presented by Kranzberg Arts Foundation in partnership with Steward Family Foundation and The Regional Arts Commission (RAC) of St. Louis. First held in 2021\, the festival tells the story of St. Louis’ musical\, cultural and artistic heritage. It celebrates the city’s imprint on the American songbook\, the relationship St. Louis has with its Mississippi River sister cities\, and the musical genres that have been birthed and fostered locally. Music at the Intersection gives a spotlight to national acts as well as St. Louis-based musicians across blues\, jazz\, soul\, R&B\, hip-hop\, and rock and roll. \n\n\nFor updates and additional information\, visit Music at the Intersection at www.musicattheintersection.org or follow the festival on social media: Facebook (www.facebook.com/MusicAtTheIntersection)\, Twitter (www.twitter.com/Music_Intersect) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/MusicAtIntersectionhttps://musicattheintersection.org/tickets/

SUMMARY:Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis
DESCRIPTION:“Suddenly Last Summer – like A Streetcar Named Desire before it – is drenched in Southern Gothic humidity\, sex\, passion\, and insanity. It threatens tyranny and lobotomy. It talks of God and man; is man’s selfish nature an imitation of a cruel God? Tennessee Williams’ poetic-prose is working at an extremely high level in this play\, revealing tormented souls and aching hearts the way great music reveals the unspeakable.” – Tim Ocel\, Director This fresh retelling of Suddenly Last Summer\, first performed in 1957\, focuses on the life and death of closeted gay poet Sebastian Venable\, whose mysterious death occurs while on a trip to Italy with his cousin Catharine. After the recent tragedy\, Mrs. Venable will stop at nothing to keep her son’s (and her own) secrets safe. Generally accepted as a modern-day horror story\, this play has autobiographical roots from Williams’ own family life. A drama by Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright Tennessee Williams\, Suddenly Last Summer will be presented at the Catherine B. Berges Theatre at Center of Creative Arts (COCA) September 7-17.
