SUMMARY:First Impressions
DESCRIPTION:First Impressions was the original title Jane Austen gave her manuscript before it was published in 1813 as Pride and Prejudice. Adapted by Ellie Schwetye and directed by Rachel Tibbetts\, this retelling weaves Austen’s classic with recollections from a variety of people’s first impressions upon reading the novel or watching a film adaptation. 250 years after Jane Austen’s birth\, love of her writing – and this book in particular – still connects us. The “first impressions” used in this play were crowd-sourced from the original 2017 production by SATE\, the 2019 production at Women’s Eastern Reception\, Diagnostic and Correctional Center (WERDCC)\, and artists involved in this production. \nTickets on sale now!

SUMMARY:RSVP by 4/22: 12 ANGRY MEN
DESCRIPTION:Adapted by Sherman L. Sergel. Based on the Emmy award-winning television movie by Reginald Rose. \n\n\nProduced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock\, Illinois \n\n\nDirected by Rachel Tibbetts  \n\n\nAssistant Directed by Miranda Jagels Félix \n\n\nThursday\, May 23\, 2024 \n\n\nNortheast Correctional Center \n\n\n13698 Airport Road \n\n\nBowling Green\, MO 63334 \n\n\nMATINEE – 1:00pm (12:30pm check-in) \n\n\nEVENING – 6:00pm (5:30pm check-in) \n\n\nRSVP deadline: Monday\, April 22\, 2024 \n\n\nPlease note: you are only able to attend the performance time you sign up for through the PPA website. \n\n\nA 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. “He doesn’t stand a chance\,” mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts. “This is a remarkable thing about democracy\,” says the foreign-born juror\, “that we are notified by mail to come down to this place—and decide on the guilt or innocence of a person; of a man or woman we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing.” But personal it is\, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined\, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short\, arguments grow heated\, and the jurors become 12 angry men. \n\n\nA special presentation from PPA’s Spoken Word class will accompany the play. \n\n\nCover art by Michael X. Campbell
