DESCRIPTION:Honoring the past\, our ancestors\, our land\, our guardians\, and their sacrifices\, we continue the journey toward the future by adding our knowledge\, skills\, ambitions\, and light. -Mee Jey \nBecome a co-weaver of ‘Cape of Continuity’\, a communal weaving workshop led by St. Louis artist Mee Jey.  This workshop is inspired by our current exhibition Delcy Morelos: Interwoven and ancestral cultural wisdom passed along generations as blessings. Taking place in the museum’s lower main gallery\, participants are invited to use objects provided or bring in objects such as beads\, bells\, or ornaments to add to the weaving. Workshop leaders will guide participants in the interlocking of these items with ribbon and yarn\, creating a communal cape to be worn by the artist at a performance this summer. Drop in at any time and stay for as long as you please. \nPlease note that items brought into the gallery must not exceed hand size and should not be fragile\, sharp\, or made of stainable material. \nThis free workshop is open to all ages and abilities. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Spring Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the opening of our spring exhibitions\, Delcy Morelos: Interwoven and On Earth. \nColombian artist Delcy Morelos (b. 1967) creates art that calls attention to connections between people and the environment. Using natural materials like textiles\, fibers\, clay\, and soil\, her work asks us to consider the earth as a living entity rather than a territory to be owned. Delcy Morelos: Interwoven features paintings\, sculptures\, and installations throughout Morelos’s career\, including a monumental\, immersive sculpture made from local soil and several works never before seen in the United States. \nOn Earth features five artists who use moving images to explore the complex relationships between humans and the natural environment. This exhibition’s film and video works present land as a central figure\, introducing themes of temporality\, ritual\, memory\, territory\, loss\, and birth. Allison Loggins-Hull prompts us to reflect on our homeland\, while Laurence Crane and Cassie Wieland create gentle spaces for continued contemplation. \nA few things to know: \n\nThis program was principally inspired by the Urban Archaeology: Lost Buildings of St. Louis exhibition at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.\nThe St. Louis Symphony Orchestra: Live at the Pulitzer series began in spring 2004 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary season. Since the series’ inception\, music by more than 70 composers have been introduced to St. Louis audiences for the first time.\nThe Pulitzer Arts Foundation presents the art of today and works from the past within a global context. Its home is an architectural landmark designed by celebrated architect Tadao Ando.

DESCRIPTION:Artist Erin Tyler will lead a workshop where participants cut and bind hand painted paper into an original and interactive notebook. The relationships between the hand painted papers mimic the organic forms and hard edges present in our fall exhibition\, Sarah Crowner: Around Orange. This interaction of shapes and colors reference works from the geometric abstract and color-field painting movements which serve as inspiration for both Sarah Crowner and Erin Tyler’s work.
