SUMMARY:STL Fringe Fest presents Jean: A One-person Play
DESCRIPTION:RATING | MATURE Jean\, a   non-binary children’s book author and one-hit-wonder\, is trying to craft   their next piece of work – but what was once a story about an androgynous puppy exploring fashion is now something much more…adult. Struggling   through their writer’s block\, they invite the audience to join them on an   insightful journey navigating family relationships and what it’s like to feel different.   This solo show runs approximately 50 minutes and contains mature themes and   language; however\, the themes of love\, authenticity\, and belonging hit home for all age groups. There is a minimalistic set and few cues. Written and   performed by Ann Truka\, JEAN is a fresh\, new work looking for its next   audience.

SUMMARY:STL Fringe Fest presents Speck of Dust
DESCRIPTION:RATING | ALL AGES Speck   of Dust expresses the importance of unity. Throughout the choreographic   process the choreographer Graciela Newsam found harmony\, balance\, and strength can be achieved together — the piece communicates the significance   of unity as a vessel for resilience\, humanity\, and kindness. Without unity\, human existence is just a speck of dust that can be caught by the wind and   swept away — together\, we are strong.

SUMMARY:STL Fringe Festival Presents Big Dad Energy
DESCRIPTION:RATING | PG-13 Critically-acclaimed comedian Jamie Campbell says most people assume he’s a dad since he’s oozing dad vibes\, but he doesn’t actually have any kids. In a show that is perfect for anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s\, Campbell’s pop culture nostalgia\, and humor-filled soul-searching will resonate with Gen-Xers and Millennials. During his performance\, he details what it’s like to get married as you approach middle-age and realize you’re going to let the clock run out on the possibility of parenthood. It’s a show about fatherhood from a guy who isn’t a father.   The show combines stand-up\, storytelling\, and a touch of musical comedy. Like a proud father\, he discusses why he is impressed with the younger generation. He recalls the days when teachers were allowed to spank students\, dishes on the time he took acid at Disney World\, and reveals how to make women happy (hint: it’s pockets.)   Big Dad Energy was recently filmed as a stand-up special for an upcoming streaming release\, and is in the midst of a national tour.   “As a Gen-X mother of two…Jamie Campbell’s jokes hit dead center…goes toe-to-toe with the best comedians in the business!” – Natalie Shaw\, Dallas Theatre Journal   “Tactically calculated jokes land with a precision that leaves you with a belly laugh long after the joke is over. Slick\, polished\, and professional\, it sets the bar high.” – Luke Dodge\, KC Fringe   “…a spiritual cousin to Mike Birbiglia’s theatrical storytelling\, with breakneck turns from laugh-a-minute stand-up to quiet reflections that absolutely take your breath away.” – Chris Alonzo\, Atlanta Fringe Festival   “Best of Fringe” – Kansas City Fringe Festival (2022) “Best Comedy” – Tucson Fringe Festival (2023) “Best Out-of-town Show” – Tucson Fringe Festival (2023)   About the Artist: Jamie Campbell has spent the past fifteen years bringing laughter to audiences across the United States. His debut stand-up album\, Tell Me You’re Proud of Me\, debuted at #1 on the Amazon comedy charts. now\, he is bringing his critically-acclaimed comedy show\, Big Dad Energy\, to cities throughout the nation. His tours and festival appearances have received rave reviews and garnered awards at venues across the U.S.   You may recognize Jamie from his appearances on NBC’s Chicago Fire\, the Pop Network’s Hollywood Darlings\, his recent super bowl ad alongside Kristin CHenoweth\, or a series of music videos by hiphop legend Tech N9ne.   “Bombastic Genius” – Dan Telfer\, Comedy Central   “…quick wit and inventive riffing…” – Teme Ring\, ChicagoNow   “…laughs are plentiful along the way!” – Kevin Beane\, TheatreJones

SUMMARY:Left Bank Books Foundation presents Chasten Buttigieg- I Have Something to Tell You - for young adults
DESCRIPTION:Left Bank Books Foundation presents teacher\, advocate\, and husband of former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg Chasten Buttigieg\, who will discuss the young adult adaptation of his moving\, hopeful\, and refreshingly candid memoir I Have Something to Tell You — For Young Adults: A Memoir at the .ZACK Performing Arts Space on May 27th at 2pm! Buttigieg will be in conversation with TBA. Please purchase a ticket to attend the event in person (through MetroTix) or virtually. Order additional copies of I Have Something to Tell You–For Young Adults: A Memoir from Left Bank Books to support authors and independent bookstores! Buttigieg will sign additional copies for sale from Left Bank Books. Books will be pre-signed for this event. If you are unable to make it in person\, you can have books shipped to you. Chasten Glezman Buttigieg grew up in Traverse City\, Michigan. He is a teacher\, advocate\, and husband of former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. Chasten currently lives with Pete; their two children\, Gus and Penelope; and their two rescue dogs\, Buddy and Truman\, in Northern Michigan. I Have Something to Tell You–For Young Adults is his second book. The young adult adaptation of the moving\, hopeful\, and refreshingly candid memoir by the husband of a former Democratic presidential candidate about growing up gay in his small Midwestern town. Growing up\, Chasten Glezman Buttigieg didn’t always fit in. He felt different from his father and brothers\, who loved to hunt and go camping\, and out of place in the rural\, conservative small town where he lived. Back then\, blending in was more important than feeling seen. So\, when Chasten realized he was gay\, he kept that part of himself hidden away for a long\, painful time. With incredible bravery\, and the support of his loved ones\, Chasten eventually came out–and when he did\, he learned that being true to himself was the most rewarding journey of all. Finding acceptance and self-love can seem like a tremendous challenge\, but it’s never impossible. With honesty\, courage\, and warmth\, Chasten relays his experience of growing up in America and embracing his identity\, while inspiring young people across the country to do the same. Review Quotes: “What a gift it is to walk alongside Chasten Buttigieg on his journey from small-town theater kid to political trailblazer. Buttigieg’s story is heartfelt\, specific\, and entirely his own–but it’s also a pitch-perfect snapshot of our rapidly shifting cultural landscape. It’s a perfect juxtaposition of ordinary and extraordinary\, told with humor\, compassion\, and unshakable hope.” –Becky Albertalli\, New York Times bestselling author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda “Chasten speaks to his readers as a trusted friend\, reminding anyone who feels ‘different’ that they are not alone\, and that learning to love and embrace what makes us different may be the greatest gift we can give ourselves.” –Dustin Lance Black\, filmmaker and LGBTQ+ activist “As I was reading this book\, I couldn’t help but think\, ‘I wish I had had THIS when I was growing up!’ Chasten reminds us that we are not alone\, and that while choosing to live authentically can bring challenges\, self-doubt and ‘hater-ade’ from outside forces\, it can also bring out the joy in life\, pride in ourselves\, and the love the world so badly needs more of.This book is a joyous and authentic gift to generations of young people. I wish I could have had this when I was growing up!” –Ariana DeBose\, Academy Award-winning actress\, dancer\, and singer

SUMMARY:KAF Artist in Residence Mario Farwell presents "Broom"
DESCRIPTION:Broom is an experimental play dealing with the origins and ramifications of police brutality in America. The play is structured around the events of the brutal assault on a Haitian American by the New York Police Department. Abner Louima was arrested in 1997 and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was taken to the 70th precinct in Brooklyn\, NY\, and soon after his arrival at the precinct was taken to a bathroom and sodomize with a broomstick by two of the arresting officers. This event caused outrage and protests in the city which continued for weeks. The play will explore the history of racism in America – specifically how colonialism has given birth to white supremacy\, thereby leading to a rigid class structure where minorities are at the bottom and at the mercy of the whims of the police.

SUMMARY:The Last Five Years
DESCRIPTION:This modern musical ingeniously chronicles the five-year life of a marriage\, from meeting to break-up and from break-up to meeting. \nAn emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years\, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy\, the woman\, telling her story backwards while Jamie\, the man\, tells his story chronologically.

SUMMARY:Alarm Will Sound: Post-Acoustica
DESCRIPTION:“Mind-blowing” – Remix Magazine\n“Bleeding edge virtuosos” – Pitchfork\n“…as close to being a rock band as a chamber orchestra can be.” – NY Times \nAlarm Will Sound performs music of Aphex Twin\, SOPHIE\, Jlin\, King Britt\, and more in the premiere of Post-Acoustica\, the follow-up to 2005’s groundbreaking project Acoustica: Alarm Will Sound performs Aphex Twin. This time around\, in addition to re-imagining music by Richard D. James\, Alarm Will Sound worked directly with electronica artists to create acoustic reworkings of music originally intended to be performed by machines. The result sees the musicians of AWS using helium\, bicycle pumps\, Dremel tools\, and more to “restem” these tracks to be performed live. \nAlarm Will Sound’s classical skill and limitless curiosity have attracted musical collaborators like Bjork\, The Dirty Projectors\, Medeski Martin and Wood\, and Tyshawn Sorey. Their recent double album\, For George Lewis | Autoschediasms\, was named a top recording of 2021 by NPR\, The New York Times\, Bandcamp\, and others. \n  \n
