On Euphonic, the debut solo album from Daemon, nostalgia makes a head-on collision with the future. Old school boom bap meets hi-hat sizzle. Guitars that could have been recorded by a grunge legend mesh with modern, layered hip-hop production. All serve to back up Daemon’s melodic hooks and incisive bars, which convey the angst of our age from the perspective of an artist who’s living through it — and yeah, sometimes going through it.
Euphonic is for the latchkey kids who roamed neighborhoods on bikes without a cellphone in sight. This one’s for the skate rats who saw ruined concrete and turned it into art. This one’s for the people who remember when rappers were emcees first and foremost, when having something to say was more important than being an influencer. Daemon wonders, can we go back? Maybe — but only if we’re also ready to go forward.
