The Sheldon’s Dia de los Muertos Family Event shares and honors the history, culture and traditions of the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). This free event is open to everyone in the community and will focus on building understanding of Latin American cultural traditions around the celebration of Day of the Dead.

Learn about the significance of the altars, called ofrendas.

Create a picture frame for loved ones to honor them in our community altar, or to take home and enjoy for yourself.

Discover cempasuchil, or marigolds, which are a seasonal flower that are used to grace the Day of the Dead altars.

Celebrate life as you enjoy traditional dancing and foods.

Community Project
Join us in creating a community altar. Participate in the building of this ceremonial altar build by stopping by the Sheldon to add a memory of your loved one. Items can be added to the altar in The Sheldon’s lobby leading up to the November 8 Las Cafeteras concert. Parts of the altar will be featured on stage and on view in our lobby through November 8, when the L.A. band, Las Cafeteras, uses it in their show Hasta La Muerte.
