In celebration of Black History Month, Turn Restaurant has partnered with Chicago’s Funk Trunk Records to present a night of delicious soul food and sultry sounds.
Soulful Turn will feature a special menu and unique cocktails, all created by Chef Kirkland – his spin on the soul food classics. Dinner will be paired with a selection of records provided by Funk Trunk Records.
David Kirkland has also invited Quinn Cunningham, owner of Funk Trunk Records, to curate the in-house record wall. Cunningham established Funk Trunk in 2014 specializing in Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz and other popular music within the black diaspora, aiming to educate the public and bridge the generation gap between his older and younger music customers. He will fill the 72-record wall with sounds from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
Kirkland will be cooking with his now signature style of fusing classic comforts with new world tastes, pulling from some of his favorite soul food recipes inspired by his mother and grandmother. Turn will offer this menu throughout the whole month of February during dinner service: Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 5 – 9pm.
